Detective Conan and Precure Just Did the Impossible — Their First-Ever Crossover Is Coming and Fans Are Losing It

When was the last time a detective anime and a magical girl anime crossed paths? Never. That is, until now. Two titans of Japanese animation from completely different networks are doing something that fans thought would never happen: Detective Conan and Star Detective Precure are teaming up for a first-ever crossover event that is about to break the internet.

On May 24, 2026, the official websites of both Detective Conan and Star Detective Precure simultaneously announced what might be the most unexpected anime collaboration of the decade. Conan himself will appear in Star Detective Precure episode 18 on May 31, and Cure Answer will guest star in a special Detective Conan episode on June 6. If that does not sound like a massive deal, here is why you should care.

Two Rival Networks Are Actually Working Together

This is not your typical anime crossover where both shows air on the same network. Detective Conan broadcasts on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV, while Star Detective Precure airs on ABC TV and TV Asahi. These are different production companies, different broadcasting groups, and historically, very different target demographics. Getting them to coordinate a crossover is like convincing two rival studios to share their biggest characters — it almost never happens.

The only precedent for a Precure crossover on this scale was the 2024 collaboration between Wonderful Precure and Crayon Shin-chan. But even that was less of a head-to-head team-up and more of a cameo-style nod. The Detective Conan crossover goes way further, with actual shared storylines between both shows.

What We Know About the Crossover Episodes

Star Detective Precure episode 18, titled “The Great Detective Assemble,” will feature Star Detective Precure and Conan Edogawa joining forces to investigate the theft of a glass slipper. Yes, Conan himself — the brilliant high school detective trapped in a child’s body — will be solving cases alongside magical girl heroes. The episode title alone promises a fun mashup of detective logic and magical girl spectacle.

Then, on June 6, Detective Conan fires back with its own crossover episode titled “A Hanamaru Truth Answer.” This one features Cure Answer, one of the main characters of Star Detective Precure, appearing alongside Conan and the Detective Boys as they tackle a series of jewel robberies. The symmetry is deliberate and brilliant — each show gets a guest star from the other, and both episodes revolve around mystery-solving with a magical twist.

Why This Crossover Makes Perfect Sense

When you think about it, Detective Conan and Precure share more DNA than you might expect. Both franchises are built around the theme of uncovering truth. Conan uses deductive reasoning and forensic science, while the Precure series increasingly incorporates mystery-solving elements, especially in Star Detective Precure, where the whole premise revolves around investigation.

Gosho Aoyama, the creator of Detective Conan, has built a franchise that has run for over 30 years with relentless consistency. Precure, produced by Toei Animation, has been running since 2004 and has become a cultural institution for young audiences in Japan. Putting these two together creates a bridge between demographics that is genuinely unprecedented.

What This Means for Both Franchises

For Detective Conan, this crossover introduces the series to a younger, family-oriented audience that may not have engaged with the show before. The Precure fanbase is massive, loyal, and spans generations — parents who grew up watching Precure now watch it with their children. Bringing Conan into that world could attract an entirely new generation of fans.

For Star Detective Precure, having Conan Edogawa as a guest star validates the show’s mystery-solving identity. It signals that the Precure franchise is willing to step outside its comfort zone and collaborate with serious, established intellectual properties. This could open the door for more high-profile crossovers in the future.

The Bigger Picture: Anime Crossovers Are Evolving

We are living in a golden age of anime crossovers. From the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle phenomenon to massive franchise events, Japanese animation is increasingly embracing cross-franchise moments. But most of these are promotional tie-ins or video game crossovers. Actual narrative crossovers between two independent TV anime series, especially from rival networks, remain exceptionally rare.

If this crossover succeeds — and early fan reactions suggest it absolutely will — it could set a template for future collaborations between anime that have never shared a universe. Imagine One Piece meeting Jujutsu Kaisen, or My Hero Academia crossing paths with Frieren. The possibilities are endless, and this Conan-Precure event might just be the first domino.

When and Where to Watch

Star Detective Precure episode 18, “The Great Detective Assemble,” airs on May 31, 2026, on ABC TV and TV Asahi in Japan. Detective Conan’s crossover episode, “A Hanamaru Truth Answer,” follows on June 6, 2026, on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV. International streaming availability has not been confirmed yet, but given Crunchyroll’s existing relationship with both franchises, there is a strong chance both episodes will be available for global viewers shortly after their Japanese broadcast.

What Do You Think?

This is easily one of the most surprising anime announcements of 2026. A crossover between Detective Conan and Star Detective Precure was on nobody’s radar, yet here we are, getting two dedicated episodes across both shows. Is this the start of a new era of anime crossovers, or a one-time event that will never be replicated?
