Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Premieres October 20 on Netflix — Everything We Know About Night City’s Most Brutal Return

If you thought Night City was done breaking hearts and cracking skulls, think again. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 officially drops on Netflix on October 20, 2026, and everything from the cast reveals to the trailers suggests that Studio Trigger is about to outdo one of the most emotionally devastating anime of the decade. The first season made millions of people cry over a character named David Martinez, and now a brand new crew of edgerunners is ready to do the exact same damage — possibly worse.

Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red Are Reuniting for Round Two

The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a phenomenon. Directed by the legendary Hiroyuki Imaishi at Studio Trigger, the 2022 anime single-handedly revived interest in CD Projekt Red‘s Cyberpunk 2077, sending the game’s player count skyrocketing by over 1,000% within weeks of the show’s release. It was a rare case of an anime adaptation not just matching its source material, but completely redefining it.

Now, for the sequel, Studio Trigger is back at the helm with returning director Kai Ikarashi and lead designer Kanno Ichio. Perhaps most importantly, showrunner and writer Bartosz Sztybor has returned — the man who famously said he wants to “make the whole world sad” — so grab your tissues now.

A Completely New Cast of Night City Misfits

Unlike a typical sequel, Edgerunners 2 is not continuing David Martinez’s story. Instead, it introduces four brand new protagonists, each with their own reasons to burn bright in Night City’s neon-soaked chaos:

  • Weak (voiced by Clancy Brown in English and Kentaro Tone in Japanese) — Once known as “King,” he is a veteran edgerunner living in the shadow of his former glory. A man who has seen everything Night City can throw at someone, and bears the scars to prove it.
  • D (voiced by Nazeeh Tarsha and Koki Uchiyama) — A Snake Nation netrunner with razor-sharp technical skills and an even sharper hunger for revenge, hunting the killer who wiped out his entire clan.
  • Talia (voiced by Kimoy Lee and Akari Kito) — Raised in corporate towers but hardened by Maelstrom’s grip, she is fiercely independent and steeped in the gang’s hyper-violent, chrome-obsessed culture.
  • Roman Carax (voiced by Valeria Rodriguez and Momoka Terasawa) — A young cinephile chasing real stories in a city that abandoned film for braindance, documenting truth in a place where stories are “messy, brutal, and rarely tied up with a clean ending.”

Adding to the star power, Daniel Wu — known for his roles in Into the Badlands and Westworld — was recently announced as Kiril Yang, Talia’s father and a composed Kang Tao executive whose “smooth corporate calm masks cold authority.”

The Soundtrack Is Already a Certified Banger

One of the original Edgerunners’ greatest strengths was its music — who can forget “I Really Want to Stay at Your House”? The sequel is going equally hard. The Cure is performing the opening theme with their iconic track “10:15 Saturday Night,” while Petite Meller handles the ending theme with an original song called “Watson.”

On top of that, Rico Nasty created “You Can’t Run From Me” specifically for the anime, and Chinese duo DOUDOU (Du Binger / Du Feier) contributed “A Rusty Dream.” If the first season’s soundtrack lived rent-free in your head for months, expect Edgerunners 2 to do the same — with interest.

Why Edgerunners 2 Is the Most Anticipated Anime of Fall 2026

In a community poll of 7,601 anime fans, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 claimed the number one spot as the most anticipated Fall 2026 anime with 16.42% of all votes, narrowly beating out The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 at 15.16%. That is a razor-thin margin of just 1.26 percentage points, but the cyberpunk juggernaut still came out on top.

The fact that it beat out massive returning franchises like Black Clover Season 2, Blue Box Season 2, and even JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run speaks volumes about how much the original season’s legacy continues to resonate with fans worldwide.

Night City “At Its Most Brutal”

Early trailer footage has promised Night City at a level of chaos that makes the first season look tame. Hacked cars crashing into each other, explosive shootouts, characters teetering on the edge of cyberpsychosis — Studio Trigger’s signature animation style is dialed up to eleven. The official tagline promises Night City “at its most brutal,” and based on everything we have seen so far, that is not marketing hyperbole.

With Netflix’s global distribution, a world-class voice cast spanning both English and Japanese performances, and the creative team that made the original a cultural phenomenon, October 20 cannot come soon enough.

What Do You Think?

Are you ready for Edgerunners 2 to destroy you emotionally all over again? Which of the four new protagonists — Weak, D, Talia, or Roman Carax — are you most excited to follow through Night City?
