Bleach TYBW Part 4 Episode 4 Is Pure Peak Cinema — Three Captains Unleash Bankai Against an Unkillable Monster

Three of the Gotei 13’s strongest captains just went full Bankai against Gerard Valkyrie, and it still was not enough. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 4, The Calamity, delivered what fans are calling the most intense episode of the entire series with Episode 4, titled “The Perfect Crimson,” which aired on August 15, 2026. If you have been sleeping on this final cour, you are running out of time to catch up before the story ends for good.

The episode, which is Episode 45 in the overall Thousand-Year Blood War numbering, pushed two massive battles to their breaking point. Kenpachi Zaraki, Toshiro Hitsugaya, and Byakuya Kuchiki all unleashed their Bankai simultaneously against Gerard Valkyrie in the Soul King Palace. Meanwhile, Ichigo Kurosaki continued his desperate fight against Yhwach in the throne room. Both conflicts ended on cliffhangers that have the entire anime community losing their minds.

Kenpachi, Hitsugaya, and Byakuya Go All Out Against Gerard Valkyrie

The fight against Gerard Valkyrie has been one of the most polarizing and hyped storylines in the TYBW arc. Gerard, a Sternritter with the Schrift “The Miracle,” possesses the ability to transform any damage he receives into raw power. The more the captains hurt him, the stronger he gets. It is a nightmare scenario for any opponent, and Episode 4 showed exactly why.

Kenpachi Zaraki, who finally achieved his Bankai earlier in the arc, charged at Gerard with everything he had. Toshiro Hitsugaya unleashed his mature Bankai form, and Byakuya Kuchiki deployed his Senbonzakura Kageyoshi at full power. The three captains attacked in coordinated strikes that looked absolutely gorgeous thanks to Studio Pierrot’s animation. But Gerard’s Miracle ability kept triggering, making him larger and more powerful with every hit.

The visual spectacle alone was enough to trend on social media within minutes of the episode airing. Fans flooded Twitter and Reddit with clips of the triple Bankai attack, with many calling it the best-animated sequence in the entire Thousand-Year Blood War adaptation.

Ichigo vs Yhwach Reaches a Critical Turning Point

While the captains struggled against Gerard, Ichigo Kurosaki was locked in his own battle against Yhwach in the throne room. The Quincy King continued his relentless assault, and Ichigo appeared to be running out of options. However, Episode 4 hinted at Ichigo tapping deeper into his Horn of Salvation form, which combines his Hollow and Quincy powers.

The tension in the throne room scenes was palpable. Director Tomohisa Taguchi, who has guided the TYBW anime since Part 1, used silence and pacing to create an atmosphere that felt genuinely dangerous. With Yhwach’s ability to see and rewrite the future, every move Ichigo made felt like it could be his last.

Aizen Sosuke Lurks in the Shadows

One of the most intriguing threads from the final cour so far is the role of Aizen Sosuke. Captain-Commander Shunsui Kyoraku freed Aizen from his prison earlier in the cour, and the former Soul Reaper captain has been quietly observing the battle from the sidelines. His true intentions remain unclear, but the possibility of Aizen entering the fight against Yhwach has fans speculating wildly.

Tite Kubo’s original manga never fully explored what Aizen could do in a direct confrontation with Yhwach during the final battle. The anime adaptation, which has added significant new content throughout the TYBW arc, could potentially expand on that dynamic in ways the manga never did.

The Calamity Is Racing Toward Its Finale

Bleach TYBW Part 4 has only 10 episodes in total, with Episode 10 set to air on September 26, 2026. That means the series is already 40 percent done with its final cour. The shorter episode count, compared to the 13-14 episodes of previous parts, has forced the pacing to stay consistently fast. There is no room for filler or slow episodes.

The cour has maintained a 9.05 out of 10 rating on MyAnimeList, making it one of the highest-rated anime of Summer 2026. Fans have praised both the animation quality and the willingness to expand on Kubo’s manga material with new scenes and extended fights.

Episode 5 Drops This Saturday

Episode 5 of The Calamity arrives on Saturday, August 22, 2026. It will stream on Hulu for US viewers and Disney+ for international audiences. The episode picks up right where Episode 4 left off, with both the Gerard fight and the Ichigo vs Yhwach confrontation still unresolved.

Given the cliffhanger ending of Episode 5 preview images suggest that the captains will attempt a new strategy against Gerard, while Ichigo may finally unlock the next stage of his power. With only six episodes remaining after this week, every episode from here on out is going to matter.

Where the Calamity Fits in the Bleach Timeline

The Thousand-Year Blood War arc is the final storyline in Tite Kubo’s Bleach manga, which originally ran from 2001 to 2016. The anime adaptation began airing in October 2022 and has been split into four cours. Part 1, The Blood Warfare, covered episodes 1-13. Part 2, The Separation, covered episodes 14-26. Part 3, The Conflict, ran from episode 27 to episode 40. And now Part 4, The Calamity, is bringing the story to its conclusion with episodes 41-50.

For fans who started watching Bleach in the early 2000s, this final cour represents the end of a journey that has spanned over two decades. The emotional weight of seeing Ichigo’s story conclude is not lost on the community, and the quality of The Calamity has largely lived up to the hype.

What Do You Think?

Are the captains going to find a way to defeat Gerard Valkyrie, or is Aizen going to be the key to the final battle? And will Ichigo’s Horn of Salvation form be enough to match Yhwach’s power? The final stretch of Bleach is here, and every episode from now until September 26 is going to be appointment viewing. Let us know your predictions in the comments below!
