What happens when the biggest anime heroes of a generation trade their quirks for soccer cleats? Something that absolutely nobody saw coming but everyone now can not stop talking about.
My Hero Academia has officially joined forces with Japan’s national football team, SAMURAI BLUE, and the collaboration art alone is enough to break the internet. The campaign is timed perfectly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and it brings together two massive fanbases in a way that feels both ridiculous and absolutely genius.
The Heroes Trade Quirks For Football Kits
The key visual features five of the most recognizable characters from the entire series wearing Japan’s official 2026 World Cup uniforms. You have Izuku Midoriya, the green-haired boy who started as Quirkless and became the greatest hero alive. Katsuki Bakugo, the explosive hothead who somehow won our hearts. Shoto Todoroki, the dual-powered pretty boy who looks good in literally everything. Shota Aizawa, the tired teacher we all relate to on a Monday morning. And Hawks, the fastest hero in Japan who probably could score a goal before the referee even blows the whistle.

The campaign uses the series signature catchphrase Go Beyond, Plus Ultra, reimagined as a rallying cry for Japan’s World Cup run. It is the kind of crossover that makes you stop scrolling and stare at your screen for a full minute trying to process how cool it actually is.
Wearable Hero Jerseys Are Actually Available
Here is where it gets even better for fans. You can actually buy this stuff. The collaboration includes an official adidas Japan National Team 2026 Home Replica Jersey, each one featuring a My Hero Academia character name on the back. Your choices are DEKU, BAKUGO, SHOTO, AIZAWA, or HAWKS. Each jersey also carries the My Hero Academia 10th anniversary logo, making it a proper collector’s piece.

Online pre-orders opened on June 1st and run through June 12th exclusively in Japan, with deliveries expected in early to mid-July. If you happen to be in Japan, limited quantities will also be available at pop-up stores at JR Shinjuku Station from June 2nd to June 15th and JR Kyoto Station from June 4th to June 22nd.
This Is Bigger Than One Collaboration
The My Hero Academia x SAMURAI BLUE crossover is not happening in isolation. ONE PIECE recently partnered with the same national team for a special promotional video titled To Our Highest Peak, which aired ahead of the World Cup. Two of the biggest anime franchises in history, both backing Japan’s football ambitions on the world stage. That is not a coincidence, that is a strategy.
Japan qualified for the 2026 World Cup earlier this year and enters the tournament as one of Asia’s strongest contenders. The competition itself spans the United States, Canada, and Mexico starting this June, and Japan’s squad has been generating serious buzz among football analysts worldwide.
A Decade of My Hero Academia Worth Celebrating
This collaboration lands at a meaningful moment for the franchise. Creator Kohei Horikoshi drew the My Hero Academia manga for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from July 2014 to August 2024, wrapping up a legendary ten-year run. The anime adaptation premiered in April 2016 and concluded its main series with Episode 170 in December 2025. The epilogue episode, My Hero Academia: More, aired on May 2nd, 2026, and a new anime short focused on Eri has been announced for this summer.
So this World Cup collaboration is not just a marketing play. It is a celebration of everything My Hero Academia became, projected onto one of the biggest sporting events on the planet.
What Do You Think?
Would you rock a DEKU jersey to watch the World Cup, or is BAKUGO calling your name? Do you think more anime should partner with real-world sports events, or should these two worlds stay separate? And most importantly, can Hawks score a hat trick using his wings, or is that against the rules? Drop your thoughts in the comments below. We want to hear every hot take.
