EVO 2026 Delivers Massive Upsets and Jaw-Dropping Reveals — Here’s Everything That Went Down

Las Vegas just witnessed the most explosive fighting game tournament in history. EVO 2026 wrapped up this weekend at the Las Vegas Convention Center, bringing together 5,774 competitors from 50 countries across 12 fighting game titles — and the results are nothing short of legendary.

Street Fighter 6 Dominates for the Fourth Straight Year

With a staggering 2,414 entrants, Street Fighter 6 claimed the top spot at EVO for the fourth consecutive year. The competition was fierce, with Falcons|Micky making waves on Mai and Riddle|Shigematsu pulling off incredible Blanka plays. The crowd went absolutely wild watching MenaRD from WBG battle through the winners bracket with his devastating Blanka and M. Bison combo.

On the Japanese side, Tokido brought his iconic JP to the stage, while iDom represented the American Manon faithful. The Sagat representation was massive this year — EVG|CrossoverRD, Kilzyou, and Enzo all ran the Muay Thai king, proving Sagat’s dominance in the current meta.

Tekken 8: Pakistan’s Reign Continues

The Tekken 8 bracket was a battlefield of legends. Arslan Ash, Pakistan’s prodigy and arguably the greatest Tekken player alive, entered with his trademark Kunimitsu and Nina. But he wasn’t alone — DRX|Knee, the Korean Bryan legend, and DRX|LowHigh were also gunning for the crown.

The dark horse? Vicious|Qasim Meer on Zafina, a pick nobody saw coming. Meanwhile, Rangchu brought Fahkumram back into the spotlight, and NIP|Meo-IL represented the JACK-8 faithful. With 1,354 entrants, Tekken 8’s bracket was stacked from top to bottom.

2XKO Makes Its Grand EVO Debut

Riot Games’ 2XKO entered the EVO Las Vegas arena for the very first time — and it did NOT disappoint. With 1,080 entrants, the 2v2 tag-team fighter earned a spot in the Sunday Arena Finals. The roster of competitors read like a who’s who of the FGC: SonicFox, Leffen, Filipino Champ, Supernoon, and Diaphone all threw down.

The standout moment? STG|Blaizzy vs M8|Wawa in the winners bracket — a match that showcased exactly why 2XKO’s tag system is something entirely different from anything the FGC has seen before. The game’s $75,000 prize pool proved Riot is dead serious about competitive support, even after the studio cut roughly 80 positions from the development team earlier this year.

Guilty Gear Strive: RedDitto Takes the Crown

In one of the most exciting finals of the weekend, RedDitto piloted Ramlethal to victory in Guilty Gear Strive, beating out BMS|Verix’s Nagoriyuki in a nail-biting grand finals. FLY|NitroNY’s Leo and TNS|Cheryo’s Goldlewis rounded out the top 4. The bracket also saw a massive showing of Johnny players — Kazam, MjKurase, and Kshuewhatdamoo all brought the pirate swagger.

Jaw-Dropping Reveals That Broke the Internet

EVO has always been about more than just competition, and 2026 was no exception. Here’s what got announced:

  • Tekken: The Animated Series — A Tekken cartoon was officially announced, though early reactions to the art style from CaliArts have been… mixed, to say the least.
  • Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls — First gameplay footage of Magneto and Black Panther dropped, and it looks absolutely insane.
  • Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game — Year 1 Pass characters were revealed, plus a community vote for the fifth slot character.
  • Guilty Gear Strive Season 5Robo-Ky is officially joining the roster on July 2!
  • Granblue Fantasy Versus: RisingId from Granblue Relink joins the roster September 17, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version confirmed.
  • Blazblue: Central FictionTrinity Glassfille is being added to the roster (date TBA).

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising and More

Kojicoco from Japan dominated the Granblue bracket with Beatrix, defeating GS|Shio’s Lowain in the finals. The Virtua Fighter 5 REVO tournament saw GentlemanThief claim victory with Akira and Jean, while Gakusei Sarah impressed with a three-character rotation of Jacky, Sarah, and Kage.

Under Night In-Birth 2 crowned BigBlack as champion with Byakuya, and the RedDitto win in Guilty Gear Strive marks one of the most memorable EVO runs in recent memory.

What Does This Mean for the FGC?

EVO 2026 proves that the fighting game community is healthier than ever. With 8,926 total tournament entries across all titles, new IPs like 2XKO drawing four-digit registration numbers, and legacy franchises like Tekken and Street Fighter continuing to evolve — the future of competitive fighting games has never looked brighter.

The crossover between Street Fighter 6 and 2XKO (436 players registered for both) shows that the FGC isn’t fragmenting — it’s expanding. New players are entering through fresh titles while staying connected to the classics.
