EVO 2026 Announcements That Shook Las Vegas: Kenshiro in Fatal Fury, Robo-Ky Returns, and 2XKO Gets Lux and Samira

EVO 2026 Just Rewrote the Fighting Game Landscape — Here Are the Announcements That Shook Las Vegas

The Evolution Championship Series returned to Las Vegas from June 26 to 28, and if you thought fighting games were just about competitive combos, EVO 2026 proved otherwise. With a $500,000 combined prize pool across 12 tournament titles and a lineup of announcements that felt like a fighting game fan’s fever dream, this year’s event was arguably the biggest EVO in history. From Riot Games’ 2XKO adding Lux and Samira to Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star dropping into Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the weekend delivered shock after shock.

2XKO: Lux and Samira Join the Roster

Riot Games officially confirmed Lux and Samira as the next characters heading to 2XKO, their League of Legends-inspired fighting game that has been building hype since its reveal. Slated for a Fall 2026 release window, the teaser footage shown at EVO was brief but electrifying — Lux’s light-based projectiles and Samira’s stylish combo chains promise to shake up the meta. Riot confirmed full gameplay trailers will arrive closer to launch, but the community is already buzzing about how these two will fit into the existing roster dynamics.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves — Kenshiro Arrives

SNK pulled a wild card by announcing Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star as the latest Season Pass 2 DLC character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. The classic anime icon rounds out a stacked Season Pass 2 lineup that already includes Kim Jae Hoon, Nightmare Geese, Blue Mary, Wolfgang Krauser, and MR. KARATE. Kenshiro’s signature Hokuto Shinken moves translated into a fighting game framework is something fans have dreamed about for years, and SNK clearly delivered on the spectacle.

Guilty Gear Strive: Robo-Ky Joins the Fight

Arc System Works confirmed Robo-Ky as the second character in Guilty Gear -Strive-‘s Season 5 Pass, available since July 2 as standalone DLC or bundled with the pass. Following Jam Kuradoberi’s April addition, Robo-Ky brings his chaotic, comedic fighting style back to the Strive roster — and two more characters are still on the way. The Guilty Gear community celebrated hard, as Robo-Ky has always been a fan-favorite for his unpredictable moves and gloriously absurd personality.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Reveals Final Characters

Arc System Works also dropped a new trailer for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, revealing Blade, Loki, and Deadpool as the final three characters joining the launch roster. They join Ghost Rider to form the Samurai Outriders, the fifth and final team in the game. The combination of Marvel superheroes rendered in Arc System Works’ signature anime-fighting style has been generating massive hype since the initial reveal, and these three additions — especially Deadpool — pushed the excitement to another level entirely.

BlazBlue: Centralfiction Gets Its First New Character Since 2017

In a genuinely shocking move, Trinity Glassfille was confirmed as a new playable character for BlazBlue: Centralfiction — the game’s first roster addition since Jubei in 2017. A teaser trailer featured a new illustration by Toshimichi Mori himself. However, Trinity will only be available on PlayStation 4 and PC versions, with no Nintendo Switch release currently planned. For a game many assumed was finished, this announcement proves Arc System Works still has surprises in store.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising — Version 2.60 and Switch 2 Port

Cygames announced Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Version 2.60 arriving September 17, adding the DLC character Id from Granblue Fantasy: Relink, a new Ainsteddo Archipelago stage, a new system mechanic, and balance adjustments. More importantly, the entire game — including the 40-character roster with all DLC — is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day, complete with Story Mode, Figure Studio, and local communication multiplayer. Players can also link save data from Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok to unlock bonus items like a weapon skin for Id and a Lyria lobby avatar.

King of Fighters XV Finally Gets a Balance Update

After a wait stretching back to December 2024, KOF XV is receiving a balance update covering all 61 characters, going live on July 2. For a game that has felt somewhat dormant in the competitive scene, this update signals SNK’s renewed commitment to keeping KOF XV relevant — and it could not come at a better time with the fighting game landscape heating up.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Opens Pre-Orders

Riot’s EVO presence also included the opening of global pre-orders for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game on Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, and Steam. Pre-order buyers get access to a closed beta from July 2-5, gold color variants for Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, and Sokka, plus the Samurai Appa support character skin. The Deluxe Edition adds a digital art book, soundtrack, unique HUDs, and a Year 1 Pass featuring Bolin, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong, Uncle Iroh, and one character decided by community vote.

What Do You Think?

EVO 2026 proved that the fighting game genre is healthier and more ambitious than ever. Between Kenshiro crossing into Fatal Fury, Robo-Ky returning to Guilty Gear, BlazBlue getting its first new character in nearly a decade, and the entire Granblue Versus roster landing on Nintendo Switch 2, the announcements covered every corner of the FGC.

Which reveal surprised you the most? Are you hyped for 2XKO’s Fall 2026 launch with Lux and Samira, or does Kenshiro in Fatal Fury have you more excited? And does the Avatar Legends fighting game have a real shot at competing with established titles? Drop your thoughts below — the fighting game community never sleeps, and neither should the discussion.
