Detective Conan x Precure Just Announced Their First-Ever Crossover — And It Breaks All the Rules

What Is This Crossover and Why Is Everyone Losing Their Minds?

If you thought nothing could possibly top the mind-blowing One Piece reveals happening right now, think again. Two of the biggest anime franchises in Japanese history are colliding for the very first time, and fans are absolutely losing it. Detective Conan, the legendary crime-solving series that just celebrated its 30th anniversary, is crossing over with Star Detective Precure!, the latest installment in the iconic Pretty Cure magical girl franchise. This is not a drill.

According to an official announcement confirmed by both Oricon US and Crunchyroll, the two series will air special crossover episodes on separate dates — one from each show — featuring characters from both universes interacting, solving crimes together, and essentially making anime history. The Star Detective Precure! crossover episode, titled “The Great Detectives Assemble,” is scheduled to air on May 31, 2026 at 8:30 AM. Detective Conan’s reciprocal crossover, titled “A Hanamaru Truth Answer,” follows on June 6, 2026 at 6:00 PM. Both episodes will stream on Crunchyroll.

How Did Two Completely Different Shows Even Pull This Off?

Here’s what makes this crossover genuinely historic: Detective Conan and Star Detective Precure! air on entirely different Japanese networks. Conan runs on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV, while Precure broadcasts on ABC TV and TV Asahi. These are competing production companies, competing broadcast schedules, and frankly, competing demographics. Getting them to agree to a shared creative project is the kind of behind-the-scenes negotiation that usually takes years.

This is only the second time the Precure franchise has done a major crossover with another anime series. The first was back in 2024, when Wonderful Precure! teamed up with Crayon Shin-chan. But crossing over with Detective Conan? That’s on an entirely different level of cultural impact. Conan has been running since 1996. It’s one of the longest-running anime series ever made. The sheer weight of this collaboration is hard to overstate.

What’s the Story? Glass Slippers, Phantom Thieves, and Magical Detectives

Star Detective Precure! is a genuinely interesting show on its own. Released during the Winter 2026 anime season, it follows Anna Akechi, a second-year middle school student who encounters a fairy named Pochitan and travels over 20 years back in time to the year 1999. There, she meets Mikuru Kobayashi, an aspiring detective fighting against a mysterious group of criminals called the Phantom Thieves. Together, they transform into precure warriors and hunt down the thieves — with a detective twist that sets this Precure installment apart from every other season in the franchise.

In the crossover episode, Anna and her friends are helping prepare a glass exhibition at the Hosho Museum featuring a stunning centerpiece: a glass slipper called “the forgotten item at 12 o’clock.” When the artifact is delivered, a massive number of resin fakes spill out everywhere. In the chaos, the real glass slipper vanishes. Suspecting the Phantom Thieves, Anna and Mikuru investigate outside the museum — and that’s where they run into Conan Edogawa, Ran Mouri, and Kogoro Mouri, who happen to be visiting Makotomirai City.

The Detective Conan side of things is equally fun. In Conan’s episode, Ayumi Yoshida learns about a string of jewelry robberies in Beika Town and connects the pattern to the Precure anime she’s currently obsessed with. She literally hopes Precure will show up if a real crime happens — and guess what? The Detective Boys, including Conan, stake out Kaneko Jewelry Store and eventually track down the thieves’ hideout. But Ayumi senses something isn’t quite right about the whole case.

Cure Answer Joins Conan’s World Too

But wait — there’s another character crossing over. Cure Answer, one of the main magical heroines from Star Detective Precure!, will actually appear inside the Detective Conan episode. This means the crossover isn’t just a cameo situation. Characters from both universes are sharing screen time, solving mysteries together, and presumably creating some of the most memorable anime television of 2026.

Meanwhile, Detective Conan Is Absolutely Dominating Right Now

The timing of this crossover is no coincidence. Detective Conan is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the franchise is riding an incredible wave of momentum. The latest feature film, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway, debuted in Japanese theaters on April 10, 2026, and immediately shattered records. It earned over 1.13 billion yen (approximately US$7.1 million) on opening day alone — a franchise record. The film also broke Demon Slayer’s national record for the highest number of theatrical screenings in a single day. Conan is bigger than it has ever been, and this crossover with Precure is capitalizing on that cultural moment perfectly.

Why This Crossover Matters More Than You Think

Crossovers between anime series are common enough these days, but they’re almost always between shows that share the same studio, the same network, or at least the same general demographic. A crime-solving anime aimed at teens and adults crossing over with a magical girl series aimed at younger audiences? That’s genuinely bold. It signals that anime studios are increasingly willing to break demographic barriers and create content that appeals to multiple audiences simultaneously.

It also says something about the state of anime in 2026. The industry is more globally connected than ever, with platforms like Crunchyroll making these collaborations accessible to international audiences on day one. Fans in North America, Central America, and beyond will be watching the same episodes at the same time as Japanese audiences. That shared viewing experience amplifies the cultural impact exponentially.

What Do You Think?

Are you hyped for the Detective Conan x Star Detective Precure! crossover? Which side of the crossover are you more excited about — seeing Conan and the Detective Boys in a magical girl universe, or watching Cure Answer solve crimes alongside anime’s most famous child detective? Do you think this kind of cross-demographic collaboration is the future of anime, or is it a one-off experiment? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
