You remember Untitled Goose Game — the game where you terrorized a quiet English village as a very rude goose and accidentally became a global meme in 2019. Now the same studio is back, and this time there is no goose. There is, however, a massive open world, eight friends, and a proximity chat system so weird it might just change how you play co-op games forever. Big Walk launches August 4, 2026 — and tomorrow, the internet is about to get very loud.
What Is Big Walk, Exactly?
Developed by Melbourne-based indie studio House House and published by Panic (the team behind Firewatch and Untitled Goose Game), Big Walk is a cooperative adventure where you and up to seven friends simply… go for a walk. You trek through a vast, hand-crafted bushland inspired by Australia’s Wilsons Promontory National Park, solving puzzles that demand real teamwork.
The twist? Communication is the entire game. Big Walk uses a proximity chat system where your voice actually travels through the world — walk far away from your friends and they literally hear you get quieter. To coordinate across distance, you’ll be miming, singing, and transmitting codes using in-game tools like megaphones and signal flares.
From a Rude Goose to a Relaxing Stroll
House House made history with Untitled Goose Game in 2019, which sold over a million copies and became one of the most streamed indie games of its era. Designer Jacob Strasser says Big Walk’s goal is to “give enough direction for the group to keep good momentum, but relaxed enough that you’re mostly just able to enjoy spending time with your friends.” The design team also includes Stuart Gillespie-Cook, Nico Disseldorp, and Michael McMaster — the same core crew behind the goose chaos.
The game was first announced at The Game Awards 2023, and its June 2025 gameplay trailer during Steam’s Day of the Devs showcase had critics like Eurogamer’s Matt Wales calling the concept “wonderfully distinctive.” Now, after years of waiting, it’s finally here.
Music You Can Walk Through
Even the soundtrack is unconventional. Composers Sam Gill and Luke Neher (working together as AKSFX) created music that is diegetic — meaning it exists inside the game world itself. You’ll hear it coming from speakers and objects scattered across the map, so the soundtrack shifts as you physically move through the environment. It’s a small detail that makes every walk feel alive.
