Arcanadea Just Announced a Star-Studded Cast for Its January 2027 Anime — and the First Teaser Is Pure Sci-Fi Fantasy Gold

One of the most underrated “sci-fi x fantasy” franchises in Japan just took a massive leap forward — and the new voice cast reads like a who’s who of modern anime royalty. If you’ve been sleeping on Arcanadea, now is the moment to wake up.

On Friday, the official Arcanadea anime project dropped a brand-new promo video that not only revealed more of the cast but locked in a January 2027 debut. The show will premiere on TV Asahi and 24 total stations across Japan in the network’s coveted NUMAnimation programming block, with BS Asahi also onboard. For a franchise that started life at figure powerhouse Kotobukiya, this is a full-star treatment — the same buzz that surrounded Dandivine.

Who’s Voicing Whom in Arcanadea?

The new trailer confirmed four fresh names joining the lineup, and honestly, they’re spectacular. Nobunaga Shimazaki steps in as Shōgo Kuga, Konomi Inagaki takes on Kaho Asagi, Mai Kanno voices Rin Kirinoue, and rising star Moka Kanzaki joins as Ghi. Meanwhile, Kaede Hondo returns to reprise her fan-favorite role as Lumitea — a character she already voices in the franchise’s four-panel manga spin-off YuruCanadea. Rounding out the main cast are Miho Okasaki as Velretta and Rina Hidaka as Yukumo.

That’s a lineup stuffed with recognizable names. Nobunaga Shimazaki is no stranger to leading roles (think Black Clover’s Asta), Kaede Hondo and Miho Okasaki are mainstays of the modern voice-acting scene, and Rina Hidaka has been a beloved presence for over a decade. For fans of the Kotobukiya figures, hearing these voices attached to the characters they’ve collected is genuinely surreal.

The Dream Team Behind the Camera

What makes this announcement extra exciting is the staff. Directing the series is Keiichirō Kawaguchi, the mastermind behind Sket Dance, Spy Classroom, and Psychic Squad, working at Yokohama Animation Lab. Series composition is being overseen by none other than Atsuhiro Tomioka — the writer who shaped Pokémon XY, Trinity Blood, and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. And if you needed music to sell you, Yūki Hayashi (My Hero Academia, Haikyu!!) and Yūki Furuhashi (My Hero Academia: Vigilantes) are composing the score.

Kumoha Arakawa is adapting the original character designs by the ever-mysterious necömi for animation, which should preserve the franchise’s distinctive, intricate art style that made the premium figures so beloved in the first place.

What Is Arcanadea, Exactly?

For the uninitiated, Arcanadea is Kotobukiya’s “sci-fi x fantasy” universe set in a near future where the world has been rocked by a mysterious calamity. It blends high-tech mecha aesthetics with swords-and-sorcery fantasy, following a cast of heroes fighting to survive in a world on the brink. The franchise has lived primarily through its acclaimed figure line and the lighthearted four-panel manga YuruCanadea — so a full anime series entering the NUMAnimation slot is a genuine milestone for its small but passionate fanbase.

Why January 2027 Is a Big Deal

Securing a slot in TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block is no small feat — it’s the same block that has boosted breakout hits and kept them in the mainstream conversation. Pair that with a January 2027 premiere, and you have time for one very well-budgeted production cycle. Given the pedigree of the staff and the star power of the cast, expectations are already climbing.

The sci-fi x fantasy mix means we should expect gorgeous, detailed mecha-and-magic set pieces — the kind of thing that screams “figure-friendly” for Kotobukiya’s model line. If the trailer is any indication, this is shaping up to be one of winter 2027’s most visually ambitious titles.

What Do You Think?

Are you excited for the Arcanadea anime? Which casting announcement surprised you most — Nobunaga Shimazaki’s Shōgo, or Kaede Hondo’s return as Lumitea? And will you be watching when it lands on NUMAnimation in January 2027? Drop your thoughts below — I want to know if this it joins other hot anime reveals like Dandivine and Magical Explorer Dandivine on your radar.
