Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Drops Its Most Brutal Teaser Yet — And October 20 Cannot Come Soon Enough

If you thought Night City was done breaking hearts and snapping spines, think again. Netflix and Studio Trigger just dropped the most brutally intense teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, and the internet is collectively losing its mind. The standalone sequel to 2022’s critically acclaimed anime is officially premiering on October 20, 2026, and every new preview makes the wait feel more agonizing.

A Brand-New Crew in Night City’s Darkest Corners

Unlike its predecessor, Edgerunners 2 is not a continuation of David Martinez’s tragic story. This is a completely standalone narrative with a fresh cast of characters thrown into the most dangerous, lawless parts of Night City. And based on everything revealed so far, the stakes are just as devastating.

The new lineup includes Weak Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner voiced by Kentaro Tone (Haku in Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth), who once ruled the streets as “King” but now lives in the shadow of his former glory. Then there is D, a Snake Nation netrunner with razor-sharp technical skills and an even sharper hunger for revenge, voiced by Koki Uchiyama — the same actor behind Shigaraki in My Hero Academia.

Rounding out the main roster is Roman Carax, a cinephile obsessed with documenting real stories in a city that has abandoned film for braindance, voiced by Momoka Terasawa (Chika in Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!). And then there is the character who has already stolen the spotlight before a single episode has aired.

Talia Yang: The Pink-Haired Waifu Who Broke the Internet

If you have been anywhere near anime Twitter in the last few weeks, you already know the name Talia Yang. The corpo-raised turned Maelstrom gang member is voiced by none other than Akari Kito, the beloved actress behind Nezuko Kamado in Demon Slayer and Seiun Sky in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

Talia’s design is absolutely unhinged in the best way possible — a metal faceplate covering her jaw, mechanical legs, and robotically infused arms. Fans have already dubbed her “girl Grievous” after the iconic Star Wars villain, and fan art is flooding social media. Some are even demanding a second Wuthering Waves collaboration so they can add her to their in-game roster.

One fan on social media put it perfectly: “That’s the most attractive Maelstrom psycho I’ve ever laid my eyes on.” Another simply pleaded: “I love her already. Please don’t murder her violently” — a fair concern given the original series’ track record with beloved characters.

Studio Trigger Returns With Maximum Violence

Studio Trigger, the legendary animation house behind Kill la Kill, Promare, and the original Edgerunners, is back in full force. The latest teaser released on October 2, 2026, features an original score from composer Tsuneo Imahori and includes the track “You Can’t Run From Me,” written by Maria Kelly and Drew Polovick and performed by Rico Nasty.

The brief clip packs an absurd amount of violence, emotion, and raw cyberpunk aesthetic into just a few seconds. Blood spatters across neon-lit alleyways, chrome-enhanced limbs clash in devastating close combat, and the emotional weight of Night City’s cruelty hits harder than any Sandevistan boost.

A mysterious fifth character has also been teased but not yet revealed, adding another layer of anticipation. CD Projekt Red and Trigger are clearly playing the long game with their marketing, drip-feeding just enough to keep fans ravenous.

Why This Matters for Anime and Gaming

The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners did something extraordinary — it single-handedly resurrected Cyberpunk 2077’s reputation. After the game’s disastrous 2020 launch, Trigger’s anime adaptation brought millions of new players back to Night City and turned the franchise into a cultural phenomenon. Steam player counts surged, merchandise flew off shelves, and “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” became the unofficial anthem of anime heartbreak.

Edgerunners 2 arrives at a very different moment. Cyberpunk 2077 is now universally praised, the Phantom Liberty expansion won multiple Game of the Year awards, and CD Projekt Red is actively developing Project Orion, the next mainline Cyberpunk game. The franchise has never been stronger, and a stellar second anime season could cement it as one of the defining entertainment universes of the decade.

What Do You Think?

Are you ready for another emotional rollercoaster through Night City? Is Talia Yang already your new favorite character, or are you bracing yourself for Trigger to break your heart all over again? Will Edgerunners 2 surpass the original, or is that an impossible bar to clear? Drop your predictions and let us know which character you are most excited to see in action when the series hits Netflix on October 20.
