Yes, the Umbra Witch is about to drift past the King of the Monsters while an EVA unit sprints down the track. This is real, it is official, and the internet is losing its mind.

Bayonetta Is Finally Racing – And She Was Born for It
Let us start with the headliner. Bayonetta, the gun-heeled Umbra Witch from PlatinumGames, is officially joining Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as part of the Year 2 pass. Fans have begged for her in a Sega crossover racer for years, and Sega finally delivered.
Think about it: Bayonetta already summons Infernal Demons, slows time with Witch Time, and surfs on bullets. Putting her behind the wheel of a transforming race car is honestly the most natural thing in the world. Expect her vehicle to be dripping in moon motifs, hair-woven magic effects, and probably a victory animation where she steps on her rivals without a second thought.
For longtime Sega fans, this is also a beautiful full-circle moment. Bayonetta 1 and 2 were Nintendo-era legends, Bayonetta 3 pushed the Switch to its limits, and now the witch returns to a full multiplatform Sega celebration. Hideki Kamiya would be proud.
Godzilla vs. Sonic: The Crossover Nobody Predicted
Then there is Godzilla. The King of the Monsters. In a kart racer. Against Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sega confirmed that Godzilla content is part of the Year 2 roadmap, and the key art alone broke anime and gaming Twitter. How do you balance a 100-meter kaiju in a racing game? You do not. You just let him stomp the track, atomic-breath the competition off the road, and dare anyone to complain.
This follows a massive Godzilla renaissance: Godzilla Minus One won an Oscar, Godzilla x Kong crushed the box office, and Toho is pushing the monster into every corner of pop culture. A Sega racing crossover is the most fun version of that push yet.
Evangelion Joins the Starting Grid – Get In the Car, Shinji
As if that was not enough, Neon Genesis Evangelion is also confirmed for Year 2. An EVA unit – likely Unit-01 in its iconic purple and green – will hit the track, presumably with a course themed around Tokyo-3, NERV, or the Geofront.
Anime fans are already memeing this into oblivion: get in the car, Shinji is the new get in the robot. And honestly? An Evangelion-themed track with an AT Field as a shield item and a Spear of Longinus as a projectile writes itself. If Sega nails the music – a racing remix of A Cruel Angel’s Thesis by Yoko Takahashi – this instantly becomes legendary DLC.
Evangelion crossovers have been everywhere lately, from Fortnite to mobile gacha games, but a full racing appearance with transforming vehicles is a first. Hideaki Anno’s masterpiece keeps finding new ways to stay relevant 30 years later.
What Else Is in Year 2? TMNT, Avatar, and More
Earlier reveals already confirmed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar content is on the way as well. That means the full Year 2 pass is shaping up to include:
- Bayonetta (Sega / PlatinumGames) – playable racer
- Godzilla (Toho) – racer and track content
- Evangelion (Khara) – racer and themed course
- TMNT (Nickelodeon) – crossover DLC
- Avatar: The Last Airbender – crossover content
That is five franchises from completely different universes sharing one starting grid with Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Eggman, and the rest of the Sega all-stars. Mario Kart World could never.
Why This Is a Big Deal for Sega
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched as Sega’s answer to the crowded kart-racer market, with dimension-hopping tracks that shift mid-race. The gimmick is genuinely fun – courses warp between worlds in real time. But DLC is where these games live or die, and Sega clearly decided that subtlety is dead.
Compare this to Sega’s older Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, which already had cult-classic guest picks like Wreck-It Ralph and Team Fortress. Year 2 blows that out of the water. Bayonetta plus Godzilla plus Evangelion is not a DLC pass, it is a statement: Sega wants this to be the Super Smash Bros. of racing games.
With Tokyo Game Show 2026 right around the corner, expect Sega to show full gameplay trailers, release dates, and pricing for each Year 2 pack. If you own the game, the season pass just became a must-buy.
When Does It All Drop?
Sega has not locked in exact dates for each Year 2 character yet, but the roadmap points to a rollout across late 2026 and into 2027. Anime News Network reported the Year 2 additions this week.
