After four years of near-total silence, the director of SK8 the Infinity has finally spoken about Season 2 — and the very first detail she revealed is already sending the fandom into overdrive. It’s not a release date. It’s not a trailer. It’s something that changes how fans should picture the entire season: Season 2 takes place in winter.
The ∞ Day Message That Broke the Internet
On August 8, 2026 — the franchise’s annual “∞ Day” celebration, named for the infinite-loop shape of the show’s SK∞ logo — the official SK8 the Infinity X account posted a brand-new illustration alongside a message from director Hiroko Utsumi. An Instagram Live broadcast followed, featuring voice actors Tasuku Hatanaka (Reki) and Chiaki Kobayashi (Langa).
Utsumi’s note, translated from Japanese, confirmed what fans had been hoping to hear: production is moving. “Season 2 takes place in winter!” she wrote, while being honest that the team is not yet at a stage where footage or full material can be shared. The accompanying visual — a pencil sketch of the main characters in winter attire, stamped with the official SK∞ logo and the kanji for “Season 2” — is the first season-specific image since the sequel was announced back in August 2022.

Four Years Is a Long Time in Anime
Season 2 was first announced alongside the Extra Part OVA in August 2022, with the entire Season 1 creative team confirmed to return: Utsumi directing, Ichirou Ookouchi on series composition, Michinori Chiba as character designer, and Ryo Takahashi composing — all at Studio BONES. Since then, news has been almost nonexistent while BONES shipped title after title elsewhere.
The Extra Part OVA, released in early 2025, held the fandom together — a self-contained side story that reintroduced Adam (Ainosuke Shindo) and Snake (Kikuchi Tadashi) without touching the main story threads. This ∞ Day message is the first concrete word on Season 2 proper since the 2022 announcement.
Why the Winter Setting Matters So Much
Season 1 was drenched in the sun of Okinawa — Reki, a second-year high schooler, and Langa, a half-Canadian transfer student, getting pulled into “S,” an illegal downhill skateboarding race held in an abandoned mine after dark. Taking the show to winter is a massive visual and tonal shift: snow-covered slopes, cold air, and entirely different skating conditions.
