Netflix just dropped the most hyperviolent anime teaser of 2026, and if you thought the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was intense, you are absolutely not ready for what Studio Trigger has cooked up this time. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is coming this Fall, and the first full trailer has already set the anime community on fire.
A Brand New Crew, A Brand New Night City
Gone are David Martinez and the crew we cried over. This time, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 introduces an entirely fresh cast of characters navigating the same ruthless, chrome-drenched Night City that chewed up the last generation of edgerunners.
Leading the charge is Roman Carax, a young cinephile and truth-obsessed documentarian who records every firefight and car chase through his retro camcorder. The entire trailer is framed as found footage through Roman’s lens, giving the action a raw, almost documentary-style intensity that feels completely different from Season 1.
Then there is Talia Yang, a corpo dropout who has fully embraced the streets. She shreds through enemies with customized Maelstrom cyberware, and every frame she appears in radiates chaotic energy. If you loved Rebecca’s unhinged combat style in Season 1, Talia is about to become your new favorite character.
The Crew Gets Even Wilder
The roster does not stop there. D, a navy-haired netrunner, moves at speeds that match high-speed monorails — a visual spectacle that only Trigger could pull off with such fluid animation. Meanwhile, the towering Weak “King” Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner, is shown dangerously close to the brink of cyberpsychosis as his massive heavy-armor modifications rip through enemy blockades like paper.
The chemistry between these four characters already feels electric, and we have only seen a two-minute teaser. Roman documenting the carnage, Talia causing it, D hacking everything in sight, and King bulldozing through it all — this crew has a completely different dynamic from anything we saw in the original series.
Studio Trigger at Their Absolute Peak
Director Kai Ikarashi, who previously worked as animation director on Little Witch Academia and contributed to the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, makes his directorial debut here. And based on this trailer, he is absolutely ready. The animation quality is jaw-dropping — every explosion, every cybernetic enhancement, every high-speed chase is rendered with the kind of kinetic energy that only Studio Trigger can deliver.
The series composition is handled by Masahiko Otsuka (known for Promare) and Bartosz Sztybor, with character designs by Ichigo Kanno. This is a stacked creative team, and it shows in every second of footage.
The Soundtrack Already Slaps
Set to Rico Nasty’s “You Can’t Run From Me,” the trailer’s soundtrack perfectly complements the chaos on screen. The music accelerates alongside high-speed car chases, hacked vehicle pileups, and physics-defying brawls. If the original series taught us anything, the soundtrack is going to be a major part of the experience, and they are clearly not holding back.
What We Know So Far
- Release Window: Fall 2026 on Netflix
- Episodes: 10 episodes (standalone story)
- Studio: Studio Trigger
- Director: Kai Ikarashi
- Characters: Roman Carax, Talia Yang, D, Weak “King” Kingsley
- Music: Rico Nasty featured in trailer
A Standalone Story That Honors the Original
One of the smartest decisions CD PROJEKT RED and Trigger made was making this a standalone 10-episode story. You do not need to have watched Season 1 to jump in, but fans of the original will find plenty of connective tissue in the world-building. Night City is still Night City — brutal, unforgiving, and absolutely captivating.
The found-footage framing device through Roman’s camcorder adds a meta-layer that distinguishes this from both the original anime and other cyberpunk media. It feels fresh, innovative, and perfectly suited for Trigger’s visual storytelling strengths.
Why This Could Be the Anime of Fall 2026
The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners proved that video game adaptations could be genuinely great anime. It won Anime of the Year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and introduced millions of viewers to Studio Trigger’s work. Edgerunners 2 has the potential to surpass it — bigger cast, wilder action, and a creative team firing on all cylinders.
With Fall 2026 shaping up to be one of the most stacked anime seasons in recent memory, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is already positioning itself as the one to beat. Mark your calendars, chooms.
