Fast forward forty-five years, and those same ghosts are now dropping into one of the most-played multiplayer games on the planet.
Epic Games has officially announced that the classic Pac-Man ghosts will join Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override starting today, September 17, 2026. The reveal came wrapped inside the broader TGS 2026 hype cycle, where gaming’s biggest franchises collide — and apparently decided to cross-pollinate.
The Four Ghosts Enter the Arena
If you grew up with arcade culture, these names are carved into your memory: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Each ghost had its own AI personality baked into the original Tanabe Toshiko and Watanabe Kazuya-era design work at Namco. Blinky was the relentless chaser, Pinky tried to ambush from ahead, Inky calculated unpredictable patterns, and Clyde had that flip-flopping behavior where he would occasionally retreat when close to Pac-Man.
Namco Bandai Games confirmed the collaboration would bring all four iconic figures into Fortnite as playable cosmetics — outfits, pickaxes, gliders, and yes, those beloved power-pellet animations. While Epic has not released full gameplay details yet, the teaser suggests something deeper than basic skins, with ghost-themed items that interact with the Override season’s security and hacking mechanics.
Why This Collaboration Is Actually Genius
Epic Games has been aggressively turning Fortnite into a cultural catch-all since the Travis Scott concert broke the platform in 2020. The recent addition of Sora from Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts IV proved they could pull off major IP crossovers without alienating either fanbase. Bringing Pac-Man’s ghosts fits exactly into the Override theme — who better to represent digital intrusion, neon-lit hack-and-slash action, and retro-cool aesthetic than four ghosts that have been breaching walls since 1980?
Brenda R. Lauridsen, VP of Creative Licensing at Namco Bandai, noted in an official press statement: “Pac-Man transcends generations. Seeing those ghosts enter Fortnite’s world shows just how powerful this kind of collaboration can be for both communities.”
Fortnite’s Crossover Streak Keeps Going
This is not Fortnite’s first rodeo with anime and retro IPs.
