A Creepy New Anime Is Coming October 10
If you thought the horror genre was running out of fresh ideas in 2026, Midori Sat’o’s beloved Horror Collector (Kyōfu Collector) novel series is here to prove otherwise. The official website unveiled a brand-new teaser trailer and main visual today alongside a star-studded cast list for the upcoming TV anime set to debut on NHK on October 10.
Who’s Collecting the Horrors?
The story follows Fushigi Senno, voiced by newcomer Hiiro Ishibashi (“KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World,” “Our Last Crusade”), as he navigates a world where supernatural horrors aren’t just monsters — they’re people who collect them with terrifying obsession.
Seno’s team of fellow collectors includes the mysterious Jimmy (voiced by legendary voice actor Jun Fukuyama — yes, that Jun Fukuyama, known for Light Yagami in Death Note and Levi in Attack on Titan), the enigmatic Himitsu (Saori Hayami, Rem from Overlord, Kaguya Shinomiya from Kaguya-sama), and the unsettling Blue Umbrella Man (Nobuhiko Okamoto, Levi from Attack on Titan, Kanda from Blue Exorcist).
A Production Team Built for Chills
The anime is being produced at Studio Palette, directed by Yuki Inaba who also serves as series composer. Character designs come from Kaori Yoshikawa, also familiar with Studio Palette’s previous works like KamiKatsu and Our Last Crusade Season 2. Composer Masato Kōda is handling the score, while audio direction falls to Tetsuya Gunji.
The opening theme song “Kagebōshi” (Silhouette) will be performed by renowned singer-songwriter Shikao Suga, who also composed the yet-unreleased ending theme. Given Suga’s track record with moody, atmospheric music, this is going to be one of the darker soundtracks in the Fall 2026 season.
From Novels to Screens — A Long Road to Adaptation
The source material has been building momentum since Kadokawa first published Midori Satō’s novels in June 2015. By May 2025 alone, Yen Press had already released both the sixth novel volume and the manga adaptation (drawn by Niko Yuki, which ran in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Gene before being compiled into a single tankōbon in March 2022).
This isn’t the first time Studio Palette has taken on long-running light novel adaptations, but pairing them with Fukuyama’s involvement elevates the production significantly. It’s safe to say fans have waited over a decade for something like this.
What Does It Mean for Fall 2026?
The Fall 2026 anime season is stacked, but Horror Collector’s announcement adds a genuinely unique entry to the roster. While other shows chase action sequences and rom-com beats, this one leans straight into the bizarre psychological horror that made the novels famous in Japan.
With only twelve episodes planned, every episode counts. No filler. No padding. Just pure, collected horror delivered right to your screen starting next month.
What Do You Think?
Does Horror Collector’s lineup of Jun Fukuyama, Saori Hayami, and Nobuhiko Okamoto make it one of the must-watch anime of Fall 2026? Or do you think the twelve-episode format won’t be enough? Drop your thoughts below — what do you think?
