Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters just dropped worldwide — and the king of over-the-top anime football is officially back. Bandai Namco hit the launch button on August 28, 2026, and with it comes something soccer fans and anime veterans never thought they’d see again: 110+ playable characters, 22 national teams, and a goalkeeper-versus-shooter system that turns every penalty into a full anime showdown.
The Return of Super Action Soccer
For anyone who grew up watching Tsubasa Ozora bend reality to score a goal, this is the sequel you’ve been waiting for. Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters brings back the franchise’s signature “Super Action Soccer” gameplay — where tackles fly, shots catch fire, and a single strike can decide a match against the world’s best. This time, the stakes are even bigger: Tsubasa once again leads Japan’s national team on a run for the World Youth Championship, facing powerhouse nations like Brazil, Argentina, the Netherlands, and Mexico across a dramatic new storyline.
22 National Teams, 110+ Characters, Zero Brakes
The roster is the biggest in franchise history. More than 110 playable characters are on the pitch, including the fan-favorites who made the original manga legendary — from ace striker Kojiro Hyuga and his devastating Tiger Shot to goalkeeper Genzo Wakabayashi, the wall Japan can always count on. Alongside the 22 national teams, the game includes more than five club teams, five high school teams, and a special “Real Japan” squad straight out of the original Captain Tsubasa manga.
- 110+ playable characters spanning the entire series
- 22 national teams including Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, and Mexico
- 150+ new moves and cutscenes showing off signature special skills
- 5+ club teams and 5 high school teams plus the legendary Real Japan lineup
Goalkeeper vs Shooter: The New Heart of the Game
The most interesting addition is the new duel system between goalkeepers and shooters. Instead of watching a cutscene decide your fate, you now actively attack and counter signature shots and blocks from the anime’s characters in jaw-dropping sequences. Passing, dribbling, tackling, and unleashing strikes on goal still rely on proven soccer tactics — but they’re powered by techniques inspired by each character’s unique abilities. It’s the closest thing to recreating an actual Captain Tsubasa episode with your own hands.
A Soundtrack Worth the Price of Admission
Music legend Tadayoshi Makino returns as composer, and he didn’t hold back: 80+ brand-new tracks back the action, giving every match the energy of a tournament final. Combined with enhanced visuals and heavily upgraded Super Action Soccer mechanics, the game is available right now in Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
The timing couldn’t be better for fans of big anime gaming moments.
