It is finally here. Anime NYC 2026 kicks off today at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, and if you thought last year was massive, this year is on a completely different level. We are talking 150,000 badge holders, a sold-out exhibit hall, and a premiere lineup that reads like a greatest hits album for anime fans worldwide.
The headliner? The Kagurabachi anime adaptation is getting its New York premiere on Saturday, with creator Takeru Hokazono’s manga finally making the leap to the screen. Attendees will get to watch the first 20 minutes of Episode 1 as part of the Anime World Tour, and honestly, the hype around this series is absolutely unreal. If you have not read the manga yet, now is the time to catch up.
Netflix Is Bringing the Fire
Netflix is not playing around this year. They are opening the Main Stage on Thursday evening with exclusive debuts, previews, and surprises tied to some of the most anticipated anime projects of the year. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is getting its first major showcase, and fans of the original series have been waiting for this moment since that devastating finale. SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 is also making an appearance, along with a LEGO One Piece announcement that already has the internet buzzing.
Oh, and speaking of One Piece, Mackenyu and Taz Skylar are both confirmed to appear at the convention. Yes, the actual cast of Netflix’s live-action adaptation is going to be there in person.
Kaiju No. 8 Panel Is Going to Be Insane
Friday belongs to Kaiju No. 8. Lead voice actor Masaya Fukunishi, composer Yuta Bandoh, and producer Shunsuke Yanagisawa are all on deck for a Season 2 panel that promises behind-the-scenes stories, a live dubbing performance, and the world premiere of a three-minute original short titled “Narumi’s Week at Work.” This is the kind of panel you do not want to miss if you are attending in person.
HIDIVE World Premieres You Need to Know About
HIDIVE is rolling out four world and regional premieres this weekend. The World Is Dancing is getting its English dub premiere on Friday — this is the award-winning historical drama based on Kazuto Mihara’s manga. Tetsuryo! meet with Tetsudou Musume, a slice-of-life anime celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Railway Girls franchise, gets its world premiere the same day. Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden, adapted from Umikaze Minamino’s light novel series, makes its North American debut on Friday afternoon, and Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 rounds things out on Saturday with a premiere and Q&A featuring director Shinji Ishihira.
Concerts, VTubers, and Pure Chaos
The music side of Anime NYC 2026 is stacked. Japanese singer yama is making their first East Coast appearance with a separately ticketed Friday concert, bringing hits like “Haru wo Tsugeru” and the SPY x FAMILY ending theme “Shikisai” to the Main Stage. Ironmouse headlines a Thursday night concert, and hololive English talents are joining the lineup alongside Ginger Root for what promises to be one of the most electric convention weekends in recent memory.
Hatsune Miku fans also have something to celebrate. The Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! fan meeting on Saturday will feature Tomori Kusunoki and Rui Tanabe for conversation and music — and yes, Tomori Kusunoki is also known for voicing Denji in Chainsaw Man, so expect that to come up.
Anniversary Celebrations and Legacy Panels
Crunchyroll is marking the 10th anniversaries of both Bungo Stray Dogs and Re:ZERO with special panels. Meanwhile, Haikyu!! is getting a dedicated event on Saturday with Yuki Kaji, the voice of Hinata Shoyo, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and discussing the series’ future after The Dumpster Battle film. Naruto voice actor Junko Takeuchi is also making an appearance throughout the weekend.
And for the first time, Anime NYC is introducing a Family Zone presented by Scholastic, alongside the third annual American Manga Awards at Japan Society on Thursday evening.
What This Means for Anime in 2026
Between the Kagurabachi premiere, Netflix’s aggressive push into anime with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2, and the sheer volume of world premieres from HIDIVE and Crunchyroll, Anime NYC 2026 is shaping up to be a defining moment for the industry. The convention has grown from a niche event to one of the largest anime gatherings in the world, and this year’s lineup proves that anime’s global momentum is not slowing down anytime soon.
