Genshin Impact 7.0 Snezhnaya Is Live And Its Breaking Every Record MiHoYo Ever Set

Snezhnaya is finally here. After six years of waiting, fighting through Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan, Genshin Impact players have finally reached the Cryo nation. Version 7.0, titled “Everwinter Without Mercy,” launched on August 12, 2026 and within 48 hours it shattered every pre-registration milestone MiHoYo has ever recorded. The question on every Traveler’s mind is simple: was the wait worth it?

The short answer is yes. The long answer involves a massive new region, two brand-new characters, an entirely new elemental reaction system, and a third-person shooter mode that nobody saw coming. And if you’ve been playing other big Switch 2 releases this August, Genshin’s 7.0 update is easily the biggest drop of the month.

Snezhnaya Is Massive And It Changes Everything

Snezhnaya introduces two major explorable areas: the Village of Jack Frost and Snezhnograd. But this is not just another pretty map. Snezhnaya comes with survival mechanics that force players to manage Kresnik Energy using the Eye of Graeae gadget. Venture too deep into the frozen wilds without heat sources and your character will suffer real consequences.

The region also features Prime Ice, a new material that can be manipulated into Snowball Launchers, Grappling Guns, and portable heat sources. Co-op players can even share Starlight Prisms, cold-resistant shelters, with friends. It is the most interactive open world MiHoYo has ever shipped, and it’s part of the rise of anime-inspired games in 2026 that keeps getting more ambitious every month.

A Snezhnaya Adventure Journal tracks exploration progress and rewards, similar to what Sumeru and Fontaine offered, but with added depth. And for returning players who have been away for a while, there is now a direct teleport to Snezhnaya after completing Prologue Act III. MiHoYo clearly wants everyone in this region immediately.

Odette And Alyosha Just Changed The Meta

The headline character of 7.0 is Odette, a 5-star Cryo Sword user who transforms the entire way elemental reactions work. Her kit converts standard Superconduct and Cryo Swirl into Stellar-Conduct and Stellar-Swirl, amplifying all Stellar Glimmer damage for the entire team. Her signature weapon, Whitelake Frostfeather, is available on the Phase 1 banner running from August 12 to September 1.

Arlecchino is also getting a rerun in Phase 1, which is huge for players who missed her. Both Odette and Arlecchino banners feature Alyosha as a 4-star rate-up. Speaking of Alyosha, this Electro Polearm user comes free during Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act I. He fights alongside his companion Tugarian, setting traps and healing allies, and his exploration talent marks Snezhnaya local specialties on the map.

Phase 2 brings Flins and Ineffa reruns, giving players more time to save Primogems after going all in on Odette or Arlecchino.

Stellar Glimmer Is The Reaction System Nobody Expected

After resonating with the Snezhnaya Statue of the Seven, the Traveler unlocks Cryo powers and the brand-new Stellar Glimmer reaction family. This includes two new reactions:

  • Stellar-Conduct: Cryo plus Electro creates a Polestar Field that boosts Electro damage and reduces enemy Physical resistance. Think Superconduct on steroids.
  • Stellar-Swirl: Animo plus Cryo triggers a delayed Cryo explosion that gains damage stacks with repeated hits. Perfect for sustained DPS teams.

These reactions are central to the new artifact sets Scarlet Proof and Heart of the Furnace, and they synergize directly with Odette’s kit. If you were planning to skip her banner, Stellar Glimmer might change your mind.

A Third-Person Shooter Mode? Seriously?

The most surprising addition to 7.0 is a third-person shooter mode complete with Cryo Rifles, Electro Rifles, and a Grenade Launcher. Yes, you read that correctly. Genshin Impact now has shooting mechanics. MiHoYo described it as an exploration tool for certain Snezhnaya puzzles and challenges, but players are already turning it into a full combat system.

New Bosses, Weapons, And A Free Sword

Version 7.0 brings two new world bosses: the Immortal Construct and the Chimeric Winged Lion. Both drop materials for Odette and future Snezhnaya characters. Five new craftable Snezhnaya weapons arrive (Emberwell, Covenant of Frost and Snow, Blade of Atonement, Echoes of the Heart, and Song of the Vigil), plus five Battle Pass weapons.

Players who explore thoroughly can earn the Exaiphanes Blade, a free upgradable weapon obtained via Statues of the Seven. And the Traveler gets a new outfit called Night Hunt in Snow, plus a summonable train with a Crafting Bench and Commission claimer built in.

The Tsaritsa Is Coming

The Archon Quest Chapter VII is now live, and it brings us closer to the Tsaritsa than ever before. Without spoiling too much, the story dives deep into Snezhnaya’s politics and the Fatui’s true motivations. If you have been following the lore since Mondstadt, this is the payoff you have been waiting for.

Is It Worth Coming Back?

If you dropped Genshin Impact a few patches ago, now is the time to return. The returning player boost, free Alyosha, and the sheer amount of new content in 7.0 make this the perfect re-entry point. Genshin Impact 7.0 is not just another update. It is the beginning of the endgame.
