Genshin Impact Snezhnaya Is Almost Here — Everything We Know About Version 7.0 and the Tsaritsa’s Frozen Empire

After six long years of waiting, traveling through Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan, we’re finally heading to the last nation on the Teyvat map. Genshin Impact Version 7.0 drops on August 12, 2026, and it’s taking us straight to Snezhnaya — the Tsaritsa’s frozen empire, the Fatui’s home turf, and the most anticipated region since the game launched. HoYoverse confirmed the date during the “To Snezhnaya and the Future” special program back in April, and the hype has been absolutely insane ever since.

What Makes Snezhnaya So Special?

Unlike every other nation we’ve visited, Snezhnaya has been built up as the antagonist’s homeland from day one. The Fatui Harbingers — Tartaglia (Childe), Arlecchino, Pantalone, Dottore, and Columbina — have been pulling strings across Teyvat for years. Now we’re walking into their territory, and the narrative potential is off the charts.

The region is inspired by Russia and features brutal frozen tundras, sprawling industrial cities, and ancient Slavic mythology woven into the landscape. HoYoverse dropped two ecology teasers — “Laws of the Bitter Frost” and “Frozen Tundra Shrouded in Wind” — that showcase some of the most visually striking environments we’ve ever seen in Genshin. Think icy wastelands with bioluminescent flora, towering mechanical factories, and cities lit by eternal auroras.

New Characters: Odette and Alyosha Lead the Charge

Version 7.0’s banner lineup introduces two brand-new five-star characters: Odette and Alyosha. Leaks suggest Odette is a Cryo polearm user with a unique “Frost Resonance” mechanic that scales off party members’ elemental mastery, while Alyosha appears to be a Pyro catalyst user — the first Pyro catalyst five-star since Klee’s debut way back in 1.0.

Beyond the new faces, players are speculating heavily about which Fatui Harbingers will become playable. Tartaglia has been the only playable Harbinger so far, but dataminers have found character model files for Arlecchino’s upgraded Snezhnaya outfit and voice lines that hint at a potential Columbina banner in Version 7.1 or 7.2.

The Tsaritsa — Finally Meeting the Cryo Archon

This is the moment many lore enthusiasts have been waiting for. The Tsaritsa, the Cryo Archon who rules Snezhnaya, has been shrouded in mystery since the beginning. We know she’s collecting Gnoses from the other Archons, and her relationship with her people is complicated — she stopped loving them long ago, according to Tartaglia.

Version 7.0 is expected to finally give us a face-to-face encounter with the Tsaritsa, and the narrative implications are massive. Is she truly an enemy, or is there something bigger at play? The “To Snezhnaya and the Future” teaser strongly suggests the Archon Quest in this region will be the most emotionally charged yet.

Gameplay Changes and New Mechanics

Snezhnaya introduces a Cold Exposure system that goes beyond Dragonspine’s sheer cold mechanic. Players will need to manage body temperature in different zones, with blizzards reducing visibility and draining HP over time. New craftable warming gadgets and food recipes will help, but the system adds a survival layer that makes exploration genuinely challenging.

Leaked gameplay also shows ice-breaking traversal — certain frozen lakes and glaciers can be shattered to reveal underground caverns with hidden chests and puzzles. There’s also a new elemental reaction rumored to be called “Frozen Solid” that combines Cryo and Dendro for crowd-control effects.
