Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc Just Dropped Its First Trailer — And It’s Already the Darkest Thing MAPPA Has Ever Made

If you thought the Reze Arc movie was emotional, MAPPA just said “hold my beer” — and then dropped a trailer so dark it might actually need a content warning.

During MAPPA’s 15th anniversary livestream event on June 19, 2026, the studio unveiled the first official trailer for Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc — the next major chapter in Tatsuki Fujimoto’s blood-soaked masterpiece. And let’s just say: Denji is not going to be okay.

What the Trailer Revealed

The trailer opens with eerie silence before cutting to a montage of unfamiliar faces — each one deadlier than the last. Assassins from around the world have been dispatched with one mission: capture the Chainsaw Devil’s heart. The International Assassins Arc is easily one of the manga’s most chaotic and sprawling storylines, introducing a roster of killers that would make even the Gun Devil nervous.

We get brief glimpses of Quanxi, the Crossbow Devil hybrid and China’s most feared assassin, standing in a rain-soaked alley. There’s a flash of Santa Claus — the doll-controlling German assassin whose puppets are somehow more terrifying than the real thing. And in the most chilling shot of the trailer, we see Kishibe loading his weapons with the dead-eyed expression of a man who knows exactly how many of his students are about to die.

MAPPA Is Not Holding Back

Let’s be real: MAPPA has a reputation for pushing animation boundaries (and their animators’ sanity). Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan Final Season, Chainsaw Man Season 1 — this studio doesn’t do “safe.” But the Assassins Arc trailer looks like they’ve cranked everything up to eleven. Speaking of MAPPA’s packed schedule, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is also dropping soon with the Culling Game arc — 2026 is truly the studio’s biggest year yet.

The animation quality is stunning — fluid motion during combat sequences, haunting color grading during the quieter moments, and character designs by Kazutaka Sugiyama that perfectly capture Fujimoto’s gritty art style. Director Tatsuya Yoshihara, who previously helmed the Reze Arc movie, returns to lead the project, with Hiroshi Seko handling series composition and scripts.

MAPPA hasn’t confirmed whether Assassins Arc will be released as a theatrical film or a TV anime season, which is honestly kind of genius — the ambiguity is fueling fan theories everywhere. Given the arc’s length and density, a full season makes more sense, but after the box office success of the Reze Arc movie, anything is possible.

What Makes This Arc Different

The International Assassins Arc isn’t just another battle arc. It’s the point where Chainsaw Man fully commits to being a psychological horror story disguised as a shonen. Themes of identity, trauma, and the cost of fame collide as Denji finds himself hunted not because he’s a devil, but because he’s become a symbol — and everyone wants a piece of the Chainsaw Man legend.

New characters include some of the most unhinged antagonists in manga history. The Immortal Brothers, the American assassin trio, and the terrifyingly calm Quanxi with her harem of fiend-girls — each brings a different flavor of nightmare fuel. And let’s not forget that this arc introduces the concept of devil contracts pushed to their absolute limits, with consequences that permanently alter the manga’s power system.

Oh, and MAPPA also announced a new Chainsaw Man mobile game for iOS and Android during the same event. Worldwide release, English version included. No date yet, but considering the franchise’s momentum, expect it to dominate the app stores when it lands. If you’re looking for more anime that are pushing boundaries this season, Bleach: TYBW The Calamity drops July 25 and promises an equally intense finale.

When Can We Watch It?

Here’s the catch: MAPPA hasn’t announced a release date. The trailer ends with a cryptic “coming soon” and industry insiders are pointing toward a 2027 release window. The Reze Arc movie dropped in 2025, and with MAPPA’s packed production schedule (they’re also working on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 and the Hell’s Paradise continuation), a 2027 timeline makes sense — even if it hurts to type.

But the good news? The trailer is real, the staff is locked in, and the Chainsaw Man train is not slowing down. If anything, MAPPA is taking its time to make sure this arc gets the adaptation it deserves.
