It has beeearly a year since the first installment of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy hit theaters in Japan, and fans around the world are still waiting for it to arrive on any streaming platform. The latest update confirms there is still no official date for the film to stream on Crunchyroll, Netflix, or any other service — and the reason might frustrate you.
The film originally premiered in Japanese theaters in July 2025, followed by an international debut in September of the same year. Instead of rushing to digital, the production team behind Ufotable has kept the film cycling through theaters with repeated special screenings. The official X account for Demon Slayer even confirmed a one-day theatrical re-screening in Japan on June 12, 2026. Every time the movie returns to the big screen, the streaming release gets pushed further back.
Compare this to Chainsaw Man: The Movie: Reze Arc, which was released in Japan in September 2025 and began streaming on Crunchyroll last month despite its own box office success. Demon Slayer is taking a completely different approach, and fans are feeling the pinch.
Why the Streaming Delay Keeps Getting Worse
The answer is simple — money. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 became the highest-grossing anime film of all time, shattering box office records worldwide. Every re-release sells out. Every theatrical run prints money. There is literally no financial incentive for Aniplex or Ufotable to put the film on streaming when people are still buying tickets to see it in cinemas.
This strategy worked incredibly well for the franchise. The film maintained a theatrical presence in Japan for roughly nine months, an unprecedented run that most blockbusters can only dream of. The constant re-releases create a cycle where fans keep returning to theaters to experience Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke final battles on the biggest screen possible.
But this approach comes at a cost. International fans who caot access Japanese theaters, or who simply prefer watching from home, are left waiting with no clear timeline.
Anime Expo 2026: No Part 2 Updates Expected
Here is the real kicker. Even at this year Anime Expo in Los Angeles, where Crunchyroll is unveiling a massive lineup featuring premieres, exclusive first looks, and over 20 programming blocks at the Peacock Theater on July 3 and 4, Demon Slayer will not be sharing any information about Infinity Castle Part 2.
The franchise will take the stage at the Expo, but according to reports, it will be a celebratory event to commemorate the film historic box office success. Voice actors will be present, and fans in attendance will still have an exciting experience. But if you are hoping for a release date aouncement, a trailer, or even a teaser image for Part 2, you will likely walk away disappointed.
This follows a pattern we have seen before. Aniplex tends to keep major Demon Slayer aouncements tightly controlled, usually revealing them through dedicated events or the official website rather than at western conventions.
What Infinity Castle Part 2 Will Cover
The Infinity Castle arc remains the longest and most intense storyline in Koyoharu Gotouge original manga. The first film already delivered three major confrontations, but the battle is far from over.
Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, has not even entered the fray yet. Meanwhile, Doma — Upper Rank Two — is locked in a brutal fight against Kanao Tsuyuri, who is reeling from the devastating death of her sister Shinobu Kocho. The emotional weight of that confrontation alone makes Part 2 one of the most anticipated anime events of the decade.
Nakime, the Upper Rank Four Biwa Demon who controls the Infinity Castle itself, remains a primary target for the Demon Slayer Corps. Her Blood Demon Art traps every slayer inside an ever-shifting labyrinth with no escape. Until Nakime is defeated, the entire Corps is stuck inside Muzan Kibutsuji fortress, battling some of the most powerful demons in the series history.
And even if the Upper Moons fall, the exhausted Demon Slayers will still need to face Muzan himself — the original demon whose reign of terror has lasted over a thousand years. Ufotable has set the bar impossibly high with Part 1, and expectations for Part 2 are absolutely through the roof.
When Will Infinity Castle Finally Hit Streaming?
Nobody knows for sure, but the Blu-ray release for Part 1 is reportedly scheduled for later this summer in Japan. Historically, Demon Slayer films arrive on streaming platforms shortly after their physical media launch. If that pattern holds, we could see Infinity Castle Part 1 on Crunchyroll sometime in late summer or early fall 2026.
But as long as the theatrical re-releases keep pulling in revenue, Aniplex has zero reason to accelerate that timeline. Fans should brace for a longer wait.
