Re:Zero Season 4 Is Breaking Fans Right Now — And Arc 6 Has Only Just Begun

If you thought Re:Zero had already put you through enough emotional damage, Season 4 is here to prove you wrong. The long-awaited fourth season premiered on April 8, 2026, and it is already living up to every single promise that light novel readers have been making for years. Arc 6 — the Pleiades Watchtower arc — is widely considered the creative peak of the entire Re:Zero franchise, and White Fox is not holding back.

What Makes Arc 6 So Special?

Right from the opening episode, Season 4 picks up in the shadow of a pyrrhic victory. The battle at the Watergate City of Priestella is over, but the cost was devastating. Rem remains trapped in a coma induced by the Authority of Gluttony. Crusch Karsten has lost every single one of her memories. And perhaps most haunting of all, Julius Juukulius had his very name eaten from existence — meaning everyone who ever knew him, including his closest comrades, simply forgot he was ever there.

Subaru Natsuki carries all of that weight as he journeys across the deadly Auguria Dunes toward the Pleiades Watchtower, a legendary structure said to hold the power to reverse everything that was lost. This is not a victory lap. This is a desperate march into the unknown.

The New Cast Members That Have Fans Losing Their Minds

Season 4 introduces two major new characters, and the casting choices alone sent the fandom into absolute chaos. Fairouz Ai, already beloved for voicing Power in Chainsaw Man and Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, takes on the role of Shaula. She is known as the Sage who supposedly possesses all knowledge in the world, and she lives at the very top of the Pleiades Watchtower. Subaru seeks her out specifically to undo the damage caused by the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony. But if you have read the light novels, you know Shaula is far from a straightforward ally.

Then there is Tomokazu Sugita, cast as Reid Astrea. For those unfamiliar, Reid is essentially the greatest swordsman in Re:Zero history — and arguably one of the most unhinged characters author Tappei Nagatsuki has ever created. Sugita’s resume, which includes iconic roles like Gintoki Sakata in Gintama, makes him a terrifyingly perfect fit for Reid’s chaotic energy.

The Music Collaboration Nobody Saw Coming

The opening theme, “Recollect,” features a collaboration that most coverage completely overlooked. Konomi Suzuki — the voice behind “Redo,” still considered one of the defining anime openings of the 2010s — is back, but this time she is joined by American artist Ashnikko. The track is produced by Giga and TeddyLoid, making it the most ambitious theme song collaboration in the franchise’s entire history.

The ending theme, “Ender Ember,” is equally stacked. It features Myth & Roid alongside TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, creating a soundscape that perfectly mirrors the emotional brutality of Arc 6.

Two Cours of Pure Emotional Warfare

Season 4 is structured in two parts. The first cour, titled the “Loss Arc,” premiered on April 8 and runs for 11 episodes. The second cour, the “Recapture Arc,” is set to premiere on August 12, 2026, with 8 episodes. In total, Season 4 adapts light novel volumes 21 through 25 — the longest single arc in the series by a significant margin.

White Fox is returning as the animation studio, with director Masahiro Shinohara and character designer Haruka Sagawa both back from Season 3. The one structural change worth noting is that AlphaPolis acquired White Fox’s shares on July 31, 2025, making the studio a subsidiary. So far, there are no visible signs that the acquisition has disrupted the Season 4 production pipeline, but it is a shift that fans are keeping a close eye on.

Why This Could Be the Best Season Yet

Arc 6 is the sequence where Tappei Nagatsuki finally confronts the core truth of Return by Death — what it actually costs Subaru on a psychological level that the series has only hinted at until now. The Pleiades Watchtower is less of a dungeon and more of an endurance test that strips away every comfort the show has built since 2016. Every episode forces Subaru to face consequences that no amount of determination can simply power through.

If you need to catch up before diving in, all three prior seasons are available on Crunchyroll, which holds the exclusive global streaming rights confirmed at Anime Expo 2025. Episodes simulcast with the Japanese broadcast, so international viewers get new content the same day it airs in Japan.
