Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Part 2 Will NOT Release in 2026 and Fans Are Devastated

Ufotable Just Dropped the Worst News Possible for Demon Slayer Fans

If you have been waiting for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2, grab some tissues because the news is not what anyone wanted to hear. Studio Ufotable confirmed through a new promotional video that the highly anticipated sequel will not release in 2026. Instead, it has been moved into the studio’s “future projects” category, which pretty much guarantees a 2027 release at the earliest.

This is the kind of update that makes the entire anime community collectively groan. After Part 1 absolutely shattered box office records with $778.9 million worldwide, fans were riding a massive high. Now we have to wait even longer for the conclusion of this trilogy.

The Infinity Castle Part 1 Box Office Was Absolutely Insane

Let’s put this in perspective. Infinity Castle Part 1 premiered in Japan on July 18, 2025, and went on to earn approximately 39.14 billion yen, which translates to roughly $252.5 million. That makes it the second-highest-grossing domestic release in Japanese box office history. The only film ahead of it? Its own predecessor, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

The worldwide total hit $778.9 million, making it one of the most successful anime films ever made. Distributors Aniplex, Toho, and Crunchyroll are even ruing extended theatrical re-releases with IMAX, ScreenX, and 4DX formats. North American theaters brought it back on March 6, 2026, with a new 270-degree panoramic ScreenX format built around the Demon King’s stronghold.

What Part 2 Will Actually Cover

The sequel picks up with Tanjiro Kamado and the Demon Slayer Corps deep inside Muzan Kibutsuji’s interdimensional fortress. The stakes could not be higher as the corps faces off against three Upper Rank demons: Kokushibo, Doma, and Akaza. Each of these fights is brutal, emotional, and essential to the overall story.

The Kokushibo confrontation alone is going to be absolutely devastating for fans of the series. His coection to Yoriichi Tsugikuni and the tragic history of the Demon Slayer Corps adds layers of complexity that Ufotable’s animation team will likely deliver with stuing visuals.

Why the Delay Makes Sense, Even If It Hurts

Here is the thing about Ufotable: they are not rushing this. The first Infinity Castle film took roughly three and a half years of production to hit its insane visual quality standard. If the sequel matches that runtime and quality bar, the studio genuinely needs every extra month they can get.

Ufotable’s 2026 theatrical slate is anchored by Witch on the Holy Night, the anime film adaptation of the Type-Moon visual novel. That alone is going to consume a significant chunk of the studio’s resources. On top of that, the studio’s promotional reel included the first character look at the Genshin Impact anime adaptation, which was aounced back in 2022. While that project has no confirmed release date, Genshin Impact combat designer Aquaria confirmed at Genshin FES 2026 that production is moving steadily with no unexpected problems.

When Can We Actually Expect Infinity Castle Part 2?

Based on the production timeline of Part 1 and the current project load at Ufotable, most analysts are pointing to late 2027 or possibly early 2028 for Part 2. Part 3 would likely follow another 18 to 24 months after that.

Neither Ufotable, Aniplex, nor Crunchyroll has confirmed any release dates for Part 2 or Part 3. Until we get an official aouncement, all dates remain speculative. But the placement in the “future projects” category is a pretty clear signal that 2027 is the absolute earliest we will see the sequel hit theaters.

What Do You Think?

Are you willing to wait until 2027 or beyond for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2, or do you think Ufotable should speed up production? Is the quality worth the wait, or is the gap between movies too long to maintain momentum? Drop your thoughts below because this is one debate the entire Demon Slayer fandom needs to have.
