If there is one thing the anime community agrees on this spring, it is that Re:ZERO Season 4 is untouchable. The series has dominated every weekly anime popularity poll since its April 8, 2026 premiere, claiming the number one spot in weeks one, two, three, and now week six. And today, May 20, 2026, Episode 7 drops with preview stills and a trailer that have fans absolutely losing their minds.
Here is the thing about Re:ZERO that keeps viewers hooked: you never know when Subaru Natsuki is going to suffer next. The Pleiades Watchtower Arc is already shaping up to be the most emotionally devastating storyline the series has ever attempted, and Episode 7 might just be the tipping point.
The Pleiades Watchtower Arc: Why Everyone Is Obsessed
After the brutal Watergate City battle in Priestella, Subaru and the Emilia Camp barely survived. But victory came with a devastating price. Rem remains trapped in a coma after losing her memories to the Authority of Gluttony. Julius has been stripped of his name and identity. Crusch has forgotten everything. And Puck, the spirit guardian everyone relied on, needs to be revived.
Desperate for answers, the group heads to the Pleiades Watchtower, a mysterious fortress at the edge of the Augria Sand Dunes. Rumored to house the legendary Sage Shaula, the tower supposedly holds infinite knowledge about the Witch Cult and could offer solutions to everyone’s conditions. But getting there is the easy part. Surviving the tower’s deadly trials is another story entirely.
Re:ZERO Season 4 adapts Arc 6 of Tappei Nagatsuki’s light novel series, and fans who have read the source material know exactly what kind of nightmare they are walking into. The Arc 6 storyline is widely considered the darkest, most psychologically complex arc in the entire series. This is not a casual watch.
New Characters Stealing the Spotlight
Season 4 introduces two major new characters who are already generating massive buzz among the fandom.
Shaula, voiced by Fairouz Ai (Power in Chainsaw Man, Kikoru Shinomiya in Kaiju No. 8, Delta in The Eminence in Shadow), is the mysterious guardian of the Pleiades Watchtower. Her character is deeply tied to the tower’s history and the truth behind the Witch of Envy, and early episodes have hinted that her role will be far more complex than fans initially expected.
Reid Astrea, voiced by veteran Tomokazu Sugita (Kensei Muguruma in Bleach TYBW, Holger in BEASTARS), is one of the most dangerous Sword Saints in Re:ZERO lore. He is the older brother of Wilhelm van Astrea, Theresia’s husband, and a swordsman whose raw talent is matched only by his twisted nature. When Reid appears on screen, you know things are about to get very intense very quickly.
WHITE FOX Delivers Again
Studio WHITE FOX has been handling Re:ZERO since Season 1 in 2016, and their visual consistency across four seasons is remarkable. Under director Masahiro Shinohara, with series composition by Masahiro Yokotani and character design by Haruka Sagawa, Season 4 maintains the dark, atmospheric aesthetic the series is known for while pushing animation quality higher than ever before.
The music, composed by Kenichiro Suehiro, has been particularly praised this season. The haunting score amplifies every moment of tension, especially during Subaru’s Return by Death sequences. And the ending theme, “Ender Ember” by MYTH & ROID x TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, is already becoming a fan favorite.
19 Episodes, Two Cours, One Massive Story
Re:ZERO Season 4 will run for 19 episodes across two consecutive cours. The first cour, titled The Loss Arc, consists of 11 episodes airing from April 8 through mid-June 2026. After a roughly two-month break, The Recapture Arc will deliver the remaining 8 episodes starting August 12, 2026.
Some fans have expressed concern that 19 episodes might not be enough to properly adapt both Arc 6 and Arc 7 from the light novels. Arc 6 alone is notoriously long and complex, featuring multiple timelines, psychological horror elements, and some of the most shocking reveals in the entire series. If WHITE FOX rushes the pacing, it could diminish the emotional impact of key moments.
However, with original author Tappei Nagatsuki serving as scenario supervisor, fans can trust that the adaptation will stay faithful to the source material’s core themes.
The Cast That Makes It All Work
Returning to their iconic roles, the voice cast delivers performances that elevate every scene. Kobayashi Yusuke as Subaru continues to be the emotional anchor of the series, delivering raw vulnerability and determination in equal measure. Rie Takahashi brings grace and strength to Emilia, while Inori Minase makes every Rem scene devastating. Satomi Arai as Beatrice and Rie Murakawa as Ram provide crucial support and their own compelling character arcs.
Kana Ueda as Anastasia and Takuya Eguchi as Julius round out the returning cast, with Yumi Uchiyama returning as Puck in what promises to be an emotionally charged storyline.
10th Anniversary Celebration
This is also a milestone year for the franchise. Re:ZERO has announced 10 major projects for its 10th anniversary in 2026, spanning games, spin-offs, and potential new anime content. The series continues to be one of the most commercially successful isekai franchises in Japan, and Season 4 is only amplifying that momentum.
Why Re:ZERO Keeps Dominating Spring 2026
In a spring 2026 season packed with heavy hitters like Devil May Cry Season 2 on Netflix, Classroom of the Elite Season 4, and Crunchyroll’s upcoming Summer 2026 lineup, Re:ZERO still manages to stand above the rest. The reason is simple: no other anime makes you feel this much. Subaru’s suffering is real, his growth is earned, and the world of Lugunica is rich with mysteries that keep viewers theorizing between episodes.
Episode 7’s preview stills hint at a confrontation that could change the entire trajectory of the Pleiades Watchtower Arc. Without spoiling anything, the images released by Anime Corner show Subaru in what appears to be one of his most desperate moments yet, surrounded by allies who are equally pushed to their limits.
Re:ZERO Season 4 Episode 7 airs and streams on Crunchyroll today, May 20, 2026. If the preview is any indication, prepare yourself emotionally. This is Re:ZERO at its most brutal and most brilliant.
What Do You Think?
Is Re:ZERO Season 4 living up to your expectations so far? Do you think 19 episodes is enough to cover Arc 6 and Arc 7 properly, or is WHITE FOX going to have to make some tough cutting decisions? And most importantly, are you ready for the emotional damage that Episode 7 is about to deliver?
